General Information
Nepal extends trouble-free issuance
of visa to all the citizens worldwide at
Royal Nepalese Embassies or Consulates
abroad and at entry-point Immigration
Offices. Presentation of a valid
passport, two passport size photos and
fees mentioned below are required.
Foreigner who
intends to visit Nepal must hold valid
passport or any travel document
equivalent to passport issued by the
Govt. for visiting a foreign country
prior to apply for visa.
a) Entry:-
No foreigner is entitled to enter into
and stay in the Kingdom of Nepal without
valid visa. Tourist entry visa can be
obtained for the following duration
from Nepalese Embassy or Consulate or
other mission offices or immigration
offices located on entry points in
Nepal.
b)
Chinese citizen are requested to apply
in Royal Nepalese Embassy or other
Nepalese diplomatic missions as there is
no provision of on arrival visa for
them.

Multiple entry will
be valid for a visa year (150 days in a

2. For Shrilankan Pilgrims visiting
to Lumbini can get single entry visa for
15 days in US$ 10 or equivalent
convertible currency.
c) Tourist Visa Extension :
A tourist visa can be extended up to 120
days from the Department of Immigration
in Kathmandu and Pokhara Immigration
Office on request. Then after an
additional 30 days can be extended from
Department of Immigration on reasonable
ground, which ensures one's departure
from the country within 150 days in one
visa year.
1. Tourist visa extension fee and
additional late fee are as follows :-
- Visa extension without re-entry
facility for 30 days : US$ 30 in
equivalent Nepalese currency.
- Visa extension with multiple
entry facility for 30 days : US$ 80 in
equivalent Nepalese currency. One who
has previously taken multiple re-entry
facility in the same visa year will have
to pay US$ 30 only.
2. Late fee for
regularizing tourist visa
- US$2 in equivalent Nepalese
currency per day for the first 30 days.
- US$3 in equivalent Nepalese
currency per day for the next 31 to 90
days.
- US$5 in equivalent Nepalese
currency per day for more than 90 days.
3. Fee exemption of tourist visa
- Children below 10 yrs.
- Descendant's up to the age of 16
years, holding foreign passports, of Nepalese parents or either of
their parent is a Nepalese citizen.
Citizen of Nepali origin, after having
obtained passport for the first time
from a Nepal based foreign
mission, until the period of his
departure to a foreign country.
Marriage Visas :
For those married to a Nepali citizen
and wanting to stay in Nepal for as long
as they like without getting a Nepali
passport and giving up their country of
birth passport ,a non-tourist marriage
visa is the best way.
Changing from a tourist visa to a
non-tourist visa can sometimes be a
lengthy process and a lot of waiting
around before they get to your file.
You need to visit the Department of
Immigration office next to the tourist
visa office in Bhrikuti Mandap, and
collect a form for Non-Tourist visas.
You require the following documents:
The application form photocopied 6 times
(so you have 7 forms). Sign the forms
after you have photocopied them.

partners passports, including a copy
of your current tourist visa.

Photocopy of your partners Nepali
citizenship card.

Study Visa:
Eligibility: Foreigners involved in
official works, INGO, Missions and
employees working in different
institutions, representative of the
press agencies and magazines, servant
of diplomatic and official visa
holders, person of Nepalese origin
holding foreign passports, leader of a
tourist group and foreigners married
to a Nepalese citizen.
Issuing Authority: Department of
Immigration on the recommendation of
concerned agencies.
Visa Fee:
US$ 60 per month for the first year
and US$ 100 for the next year for non
tourist.
US$ 10 per month for press visa.
US$ 20 per month for those working in
HMG office or project
US$ 20 per month for marriage visa.
US$ 10 per month for relation visa.
Business Visa:
Eligibility: Foreign investor and
persons involved in trade and commerce.
Issuing Authority: Department of
Immigration on the recommendation of
concerned agencies;
Visa Fee: (1) US$ 100 for one year. (2)
US$ 250 for five years.
Some Important information to tourist :
Don't or Do's
- A tourist may stay in Nepal upto
150 days in a visa year (Jan-Dec).
- A tourist must extend his/her
visa before expiry of the visa validity
period. - A tourist who does not
comply with these regulations may be
liable of fine and other
prosecution as provided in Immigration
Act and Rules.
- A Foreigner having obtained
tourist visa shall not allowed to work
with or without receiving
remuneration.
- A foreigner shall not be allowed
to carry out any work other than that
for which purpose s/he has
obtained the visa.

The following entry and exit points
are prescribed for the purpose of the
foreigners entering into and departing
from the Kingdom of Nepal. Deviation
from these points at the time of entry
or exit shall be treated as the
violation of Immigration rules.

International Airport, Kathmandu
ii. Kakarvitta, Jhapa (Eastern Nepal)
iii. Birgunj, Parsa (Central Nepal)
iv. Kodari, Sindhupalchowk (Northern Border)
v. Belahia, Bhairahawa (Rupandehi, Western Nepal)
vi. Jamunaha, Nepalgunj (Banke, Mid Western Nepal)
vii. Mohana, Dhangadhi (Kailali, Far Western Nepal)
viii. Gadda Chauki, Mahendranagar (Kanchanpur, Far
Western Nepal)
Trekking permit:
A valid permit is required for certain
areas, which we will obtain upon your
arrival. We will require two working
days and two passports size photographs.
Permits are not required for the
Annapurna, Everest and Langtang treks.
However, conservation entry fees are
required for these national parks.
Disposal of rubbish:
We recommend that each trekker have keep
a small bag during the course of the
trip. Each morning a small fire is lit
for burnable rubbish. Any non-burnable
or non-biodegradable rubbish should be
carried back to Kathmandu and disposed
appropriately.
Money and valuable
securities:
Always carry Nepalese rupees in small
bills on your trek. The amount to be
cared depends on the area and the
duration of the trek. A guideline for
this will be presented during our trek
briefing. Money will only be required
for the purchase of soft/hard bottled
drinks and souvenirs along the way.
Other money and valuables should be kept
in a safe deposit box in your hotel in
